Route facts
The Hubli–Hampi run, from drivers who do it weekly
— 01
The route
Hubli → Gadag → Hospet → Hampi. Fast four-lane to Hospet, then the last 13 km into the ruins. Almost no ghats.
— 02
One day or two?
The main circuit fits a long day if you leave by 6 AM. To see Vittala, the royal enclosure and Anegundi properly, stay a night in Hospet.
— 03
Getting around the ruins
The site is spread out — Sacred Centre, Royal Centre, riverside. The cab shuttles you between clusters so you walk only what you want to.
— 04
Best season
October to February for cool sightseeing. Summers are harsh on the open ruins; carry water and start early.
— 05
Add Tungabhadra Dam
The dam and its musical fountain (Hospet) make a good evening close — 20 km round from the ruins, billed per km.
— 06
Coracle & sunset
A Tungabhadra coracle ride and the Hemakuta sunset are the two things people remember — plan the day so you catch both.
